Knife Steel Comparisons – How Do Budget Steels Rate?

Well this may spark some debate. But I pulled these stats directly from the knifesteelnerds . com website, so don’t blame me! We tend to review a lot of inexpensive knives and replicas with questionable steel. But how bad is 8CR13 or 9CR18 really? How does D2’s edge retention compare to some of the more expensive steel? I decided to make a series of very simple charts to help me visualize the differences between all of these steels - as well as the higher end “super steels”. What I found may be a little surprising.
